The Latest from Doctor Dread

This is Doctor Dread checking in again. Things have been pretty exciting since Iíve last talked with you.

After spending the turn of the new millenium in Jamaica with my family, I spent a few days in Kingston checking in with Israel Vibration, who were recording a new CD featuring the likes of Sly Dunbar on drums, Chinna Smith on lead guitar, Flabba Holt on bass, Steve Golding on rhythm guitar and Tee-Birdd on keyboards. This was an amazing session which has resulted in the new Israel Vibration CD to be titled "Jericho." Jim Fox was in Kingston for the sessions and has mixed the album in Washington, DC with the assistance of Wiss, Skelly and Flabba. It sounds wicked!!!!!! Look for its release on May 16.

And speaking of Israel Vibration, I have been putting together three CD compilations, each one featuring only songs where Wiss sings lead, Apple sings lead or Skelly sings lead. Each one will be called "Wiss Vibes," "Apple Vibes" and "Skelly Vibes." I have taped extensive interviews with each singer about his life and the history behind the twelve songs on each CD. Due to our closeness and their comfort with talking with me, some amazing facts were revealed. On these CDs you will hear each member telling the truth behind the making of each song in his own voice. With the remaining 20-30 minutes of time remaining on each CD, there will be an extensive interview with each artist revealing many interesting facts about their lives. And then, as a special bonus, RAS will put all three into a box set called "The Power of the Trinity," which will feature a special booklet historically capturing Israel Vibration as well as some other goodies not included in the individually packaged CDs. This box set will be available to our web browsers at a special price during the month preceding the street release date, so stay tuned for further details. Any true Israel Vibration fan will not want to miss this spectacular offer!!

We have also had the great dub pioneer Scientist do some wild dub mixes of the new Culture "Payday" album. We plan on releasing this sometime in August with a title like "Scientist Sends Culture into a Parallel Universe." Or something along those lines. If you have any really cool names you would like to suggest, please email them to teresaa@rasrecords.com. If we use your idea, you will get credit on the CD and a free RAS 20th Anniversary 20-CD box set.

And as if all this were not enough, I just returned from Jamaica last week where I was recording a "Disney" Reggae CD which features Bunny Wailer singing "Hakuna Matada," JC Lodge on "Colours of the Wind," Marcia Griffiths on "Beauty and the Beast," Tony Rebel with Bare Necessities," Gregory Isaacs on "When I See an Elephant Fly," Don Carlos on "Zippedy Do Dah," Peter Broggs on "Whoís Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf," Yami Bolo on "Youíve Got a Friend in Me," and Sugar Minott on "Itís a Small World." There will be a few more tracks added, but with the enormous success of our first two "Reggae For Kids" releases, we are expecting big things with this one as well. Again, I will keep you posted as we get nearer to the release date.

I hope you are enjoying our web site as it goes through its improvements, and I do appreciate your visits and itinual support of RAS Records as we strive to bring you progressive and positive reggae music into the 21st century.

Jah Guide and Protect,

Doctor Dread
